I predict in years to come that emails won’t be a single entity, but instead a collection of content blocks that are fed from different sources. For those familiar with RSS, I see a more flexible API feed to replace this. I understand the appeal with RSS, and the ability to fully automate your email marketing, but I am very wary of 100% automation… It’s great when it works!
If you’ve ever tried to pull content into email over RSS, you’ll know how inflexible this can be. There’s very little room for selecting the data being fed through, the order of the data, or the style and placement of the content. It’s all or nothing.
In a similar way that Zapier and IFTTT allow you to pass data and information across apps, there will be a similar method of pulling data over API to compile content for email.
